German architect Walter Gropius, the founder of Bauhaus Art School in Dessau designed two original buildings that have now been restored and revamped by German practice. The new project that took place actually caused a little bit of controversy over the memorial site, which reopened May 16, 2014. The aesthetic reconstruction of the outer shells in the interests of tourism; and the conservation of the structures as historic records of destruction. In order to protect the significance behind the structure the decision was made to reconstruct and update the design. The structure consists of stacked compositions of concrete, influenced by their previous structural shape.
