Lately I have been listening to a lot of Curtis Mayfield, Bill Withers, Casey Veggies, Phil Ade, Dom, SZA, NERD, and King Krule. A little bit of The Beatles and OutKast as well.

Special moment in music/life book that affected you most?

A special moment in rap for me was when one of my idols Jimmy Gorecki showed me he was a supporter of my music, that was a home run for sure. And also doing shows alongside my brother Cire, seeing people in the crowd enjoying the music, having fun, that’s always a special moment. Making this project has been special too, definitely.

If you could elevate your life right now, how would you do so?

If I could elevate my life right now… Hm.. I’d pretty much just wish for good health and happiness and everything else would fall into place on its own after I acquired those two things.

Main team behind Troy Gold and why surround yourself with those people?

My team is The Wavy Club and I surround myself with those people because I’ve known them for years. They are all great people and they see my vision, at the same time I see theirs and we’re all working to help one another make these dreams come true.

What do you see yourself doing if there was no music?

I think about that from time to time, and to be completely honest with you I don’t even know. After all this time, I still don’t have an answer. That’s probably a good thing though.

Who do you go to for advice or see as a mentor?

I got a few mentors and older homies that I can hit up if I ever need anything. Whether it’s with help with something that I have control over or vice versa. They always let me know the truth and help me figure it out. I listen to music when I have questions too. Sometimes music has better answers than life itself.

What makes you extraordinary or separate from the world? Do you consider yourself to think differently or see things differently?

I think I was just born with a different outlook on things, whether it be in school, music, style, anything. Since I was a youngin I just did things differently, unintentionally. I always looked at it as a blessing though. I always been a little shy and shallow, which I’m still getting out of, but I don’t think I’m better than everybody else or anything like that because I just have a different preference of food, music, brands, or whatever it may be; to each its own. What makes us is what we enjoy and how we all see differently through the two eyes we were given.

What does the writing and recording process for Troy Gold consist of?

I pretty much just write songs based off of total emotion. Which is why if you have ever listened to my music before or watch my music videos, they are all very different and very emotional yet consist of good quality in their own right.

My recording process is pretty simple, I turn on a beat that fits whatever emotion I’m feeling at the time, I just let go, I just rap. During the beginning of my career (before I was 18) I was completely okay with speaking my mind and not holding back. I used to filter my raps in fear of how my family would feel if they heard it, and things like that, nowadays I know that I’m an artist and I don’t really care about anyone’s feelings because this is my getaway and this is what I love to do. It’s my canvas, so I paint whatever I want, whenever I want, it’s something that’s completely “mine.”

Takes us through the creative process for your visuals, music, and threads?

For my visuals I just try to put together something that is simple yet stimulating. I also just try my best to work with Azem and Frezh to make my new visuals better than the previous visuals in as many ways as possible. For example, for the FLEX LA DORE music video, it’s very simple, but I’m doing tricks with a Light Saber and I’m being a super rapper. It’s kind of oxy-moron. I’m rapping… With a light saber…? You get it? Hahaha.
With fashion and stuff I get dressed based off of emotion as well. Lately I’ve been exhausted and stuff, not sleeping and things like that. So I’ve been trying to just get intact with my mind and body and be comfortable, so I’ve been rocking cozy clothes like JSP sweatshorts, loose thin tees, and nike free runs so I can just be comfortable all day. But usually I just grab some stuff and put it on as long as it reflects what’s going on at that time or what the occasion may be.
As we come to an end please share with the folks what is next on your agenda and what they can expect from you moving forward?
Next up is the IVY $HORE EP that I am dropping, it’s my debut effort. I’m working on visuals and treatment on it with Frezh right now and It’s going well. I can’t complain about it at all, Just taking my time making sure things are right. I want this to be something that people relate to. This is for the shy kids that are the underdogs and will sooner than later be embraced for their talent instead of being ostracized for what they believe in and enjoy. After IVY $HORE releases, I’ll be dropping my brand, which I won’t say much about because I really want it to be a surprise. Other than that follow me on Twitter + Instagram @Troy100k to see what’s going on! You never really know what’s going to happen…literally. You don’t!
Peace.
